1. Who We Are

Groundwork ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance application operated by Manning Stinson, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The service is accessible at groundwork.money.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account and use the service:

• Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash — we never store plaintext passwords)
• Financial data you enter: bank and investment account balances, loan and liability balances, transactions you import or enter manually, and budgets you create
• Transaction imports: CSV files you upload to import transaction history
• Category and deduction data: how you categorize transactions, and which ones you mark or that are flagged as potentially tax-deductible

Groundwork does not connect directly to your bank — there is no Plaid-style live bank link. All balances and transactions are entered or imported by you.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Build and adjust your budget based on the income and expenses you provide
• Suggest transaction categories and flag potentially tax-deductible purchases, using an AI model that processes your transaction descriptions and amounts
• Calculate your net worth, runway, and Financial Discipline Profile from your account data
• Send transactional emails — password resets — from noreply@groundwork.money
• Maintain and improve the service

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Data Sharing

We share your information only with the following third-party services that are necessary to run the product:

• Anthropic— transaction descriptions and amounts are sent to Anthropic's API to power category suggestions and deduction flagging. See anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
• Resend — transactional email delivery (password resets). See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management. See stripe.com/privacy.

We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users and service.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and financial data for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account entirely, contact us at hello@groundwork.money and we will remove your data within 30 days.

6. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: passwords are hashed with bcrypt, connections are served over HTTPS, and authentication uses signed session tokens. No system is completely immune to attack, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.

7. Cookies

Groundwork uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies, and we do not run third-party ad trackers.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Update your name, email, and password at any time from your Profile
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Export your data (contact us and we will provide a copy)

9. Children's Privacy

Groundwork is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
